Chelsea FC: Foundations and Early Successes

Chelsea Football Club was founded on 10 March 1905 at The Rising Sun pub (now The Butcher's Hook) on Fulham Road, London. Entrepreneur Gus Mears purchased Stamford Bridge athletics ground and, after failed talks with Fulham FC, established Chelsea to occupy the stadium. The club adopted royal blue shirts inspired by Lord Cadogan's racing colours and joined the Football League Second Division for the 1905–06 season.
Rapid promotion to the First Division arrived in 1907. Early decades featured big crowds and star players like Hughie Gallacher. Chelsea reached the FA Cup final in 1915, losing to Sheffield United. They finished third in the First Division in 1920, their best pre-war league position, and set attendance records, including 82,905 for an Arsenal match in 1935.
The club earned the nickname 'Pensioners' from nearby Chelsea Pensioners. World War II disrupted progress, but post-war revival under Ted Drake delivered the club's first major trophy: the First Division title in 1954–55. This championship marked their only league win until the modern era and qualified them for the European Cup debut.
The 1960s and 1970s brought flair under managers like Tommy Docherty and Dave Sexton. Chelsea won the FA Cup in 1970 (replay victory over Leeds United) and the Cup Winners' Cup in 1971 against Real Madrid. They reached another FA Cup final in 1967 and enjoyed strong European runs, establishing Stamford Bridge as a fortress with passionate support.
Financial instability and relegations marked the late 1970s and 1980s. Despite periods in the Second Division, the club maintained big-club status with loyal fans and iconic players. These early years built ambition and glamour, from founding dreams to first trophies and European adventures in west London.

Abramovich Takeover to 2026 Premier League (2003–Present)
Roman Abramovich's 2003 takeover transformed Chelsea into a global powerhouse. Managers like Graham Potter, Mauricio Pochettino, and Enzo Maresca navigated transitions. Chelsea returned to the Champions League in 2025–26 after strong domestic form.
In the 2025–26 Premier League season, Chelsea sit fifth after 29 games (13 wins, 9 draws, 7 losses, 53 goals for, 34 against, 48 points). They qualify for European competition and maintain Stamford Bridge as a modernised venue with global fanbase. Recent years feature rebuilding amid high expectations in west London.

- Damage — The patient suffered actual harm, which may include physical injury, psychological distress, financial loss, additional medical needs, or reduced quality of life.
Common examples include misdiagnosis, delayed diagnosis, surgical errors, incorrect medication, failure to obtain informed consent, or inadequate aftercare. Not every poor outcome or medical mistake constitutes negligence—only those deviating from reasonable professional standards and causing avoidable harm qualify.In the UK, claims are pursued through the civil justice system, often against the NHS or private providers, with the goal of securing compensation to address losses and support recovery. Medical negligence cases can be complex, requiring expert evidence and strict time limits for claims.
